Faith

Jamaica is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as having more churches per square mile than any other nation on earth.  The Judeo-Christian ethic is central to our national Motto, Anthem and Pledge (MAP) and our national anthem is the only national anthem which is a prayer: ‘Eternal Father, Bless Our Land…’.

Today there is a plethora of protestant denominations bequeathed or evolved from the English colonizers and numerous other faiths including the Afrocentric Rastafarianism which gave the world reggae music.

One cannot escape the fact that Jamaica is a deeply spiritual country, having what Bob Marley describes as ‘a natural mytic’.

You feel it in the air, in the unbelievable experience of watching the sun rise on Blue Mountain Peak, the highest point in the island, rising majestically to 7,402 ft. (2,256 metres); of experiencing the deep serenity of a secluded river bank or of a surprise spring or waterfall.

Experiencing a river baptism, a tent meeting or a ‘reasoning’ with Rastafarian brethren and sistren or the soul stirring sounds of Jamaica’s indigenous gospel music will convince you that it is indeed fitting that a country this beautiful should have so many places to give thanks.

So, plan to hold your church’s next board meeting, men’s, women’s or youth retreat in Jamaica.  Come for training in missions or visit during one of our soul stirring annual events such as ‘Fun In The Son’ or Woman to Woman’.  Come refresh and renew, because in the words of the national pledge, Jamaica is here to play her part ‘in advancing the welfare of the whole human race’.
