The Food Hygiene Bureau

The Food Hygiene Bureau (FHB) was established in 1999 as a private sector organization with the mission to educate consumer and the food industry in best practices in food safety, hygiene and occupational health and safety. We are the regional food safety-training centre in the Caribbean for the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, England, the Royal Public Health & Hygiene and the National Environmental Health Associates, USA.

To date we have awarded over 3,500 certificates in food safety to industries. We offer technical assistance to the food and hospitality sector. FHB has generated an excellent track record through its past successes with major projects, recognition by and affiliation with several reputable and renowned international and local bodies, excellent record in training and consulting regional and international.

Some Major Projects

  • Co-planner and co-host of four (4) International Conferences – last one in November, 2003. Over three hundred local and international companies were represented
  • Caribbean Communicable Disease Control Symposium for Cruise Line Industry, in November, 2003 – joint collaborative effort with Caribbean Epidemiological Centre (CAREC) and World Health Organization (WHO)
  • International Food Safety Conference (Spain 2000): FHB made presentation on

      “Food Safety”

  • HACCP Sensitization Programme (Island wide) sponsored by Inter-American Institute for Cooperative Agriculture (IICA) and Rural Agricultural Development Agency (RADA): Consulting Body to their Women Farmers’ Network Program
    • Partner in Special Project  with Caribbean Epidemiological Centre

      (CAREC), Trinidad.

  • Trainer for the Ministry of Turks & Caicos Health Department
  • Trainer for the Barbados Hotel, Tourist Association
  • Trainer for the Montserrat Tourist Board Association
  • Manage a variety of contracts for hotels and large resorts in training and HACCP implementation.
  • Auditor for Pub Franchise Chain in London

  • Recognition by various government ministries and agencies as being pivotal in development of the industry, for example Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture, HEART/NCTVET, IICA
